| The large silver Great Britain double florin (value 4 shillings) was introduced in 1887 towards the end of the reign of Queen Victoria.
With the earlier introduction of the British florin (1/10th of a pound) as a Victorian step towards decimalisation it was logical
to eventually introduce a Great Britain coin worth 1/5th of a pound. However, mainly because of the closeness in size to the British crown, the
double florin was unpopular - too many English barmaids were being confused! In 1890, after only 4 years, the double florin was
